According to the opposition Socialists, Nerja now has a municipal debt – debts, credit and negative cash balance – of €13 million.
The vice-chairperson of the PSOE, Luis Peña, made this assertion following the Council plenary session on Thursday in which the ruling PP government used its absolute majority to provisionally approve fiscal policy for 2009.
Direct taxes are set to be frozen while municipal taxes will only rise by an amount equivalent to the Consumer Price Index, currently at 5.8%. The PSOE also stated its opposition to the reintroduction of the municipal tax for rubbish collection.
