A judge in Belfast has ordered the release, on bail, of ETA activist José Ignacio de Juana Chaos, who was detained under an international ‘search and detain’ warrant issued by the Spanish authorities.
Bail was set at £5,000 and de Juana has to remain inside his home between 19:00 and 08:00 and report to the police station on a daily basis.
The judge hearing the case for extradition took the decision pending clarification of certain aspects of the ‘serach and detain’ warrant, particularly with reference to the crime of ‘glorifying terrorism’. The issuing of bail is apparently quite normal in such cases.
The next hearing has been scheduled for November 28th, although this could be brought forward if the pending issues are resolved.
