Real Madrid moved up to second place in La Liga with a 1-0 win against Recreativo. Not a very convincing win, but a win nonetheless. Sneijder, who had an early goal disallowed, scored what turned out to be the winner just before half-time.
Villarreal were surprisingly beaten 0-3 at home by Valladolid, losing their unbeaten record in the process. Jonathan Sesma grabbed a couple and Luis Prieto scored the third, all the goals coming in the first half.
In the remaining Saturday match, Sevilla and Valencia played out a goalless draw.
In Division Two, Xerez moved to the top of the table pending Sunday’s games after beating bottom club Sevilla Atlético 1-2. Bermejo and Momo were the scorers for Xerez, Hugo getting one back for Sevilla at the beginning of the decond half.
Zaragoza are back up to third at the moment after a 3-0 win over Eibar, Ewerthon scoring a brace and Ayala getting the third.
Hércules drop out of the promotion spots after a 0-0 draw with Castellón.
