The Rio de la Miel area in the east of the municipality was one of the worst hit by the devastating floods of September 2007, when 200 litres of water per square metre fell in just a couple of hours. Avocado orchards were destroyed as well as the infrastructure in the area, and the MA-6102 was particularly badly damaged.
Residents in the area have had to live with slopes and embankments in the area, making travel difficult. But not for much longer.
The cogs of the political wheel have moved swiftly into action and now, after a mere year and a bit, the Provincial Council has awarded the contract to repair the damage.
The repairs will cost in the region of €250,000 and are included in the ‘Plan Daños por Temporales de 2007’. They included restabilising the road, building protective walls and embankments, repairing sewage systems, putting up crash barriers, replacing damaged pavements and installing new road signs.
The work is expected to start before the end of the year.
On the general subject of claims for damages as a result of the storms, there is still no news on any aid forthcoming from the Central Government relating to agricultural losses, estimated at around €9,2 million.
