Suspected child poisoner remanded in custody

After an appearance in court in Melilla, the woman suspected of poisoning her two year old daughter by injecting her with alcohol has been sent to prison.

The woman, a Moroccan who hardly speaks any Spanish, denies causing harm to her daughter but the judge hearing the case decided there was sufficient evidence to justify remanding her in custody. She is now in Melilla prison.

The court is also investigating the death a few weeks ago of another young daughter of the accused and are considering requesting exhumation of the body for analysis. However, the body was buried in Segangan, Morocco, and permission would have to be sought, a process which could take a while.
