The EA (Eusko Alkartasuna) party representatives forming part of a coalition government in Azpeitia have today resigned from the government and will take their places as part of the Opposition.
The town was the scene of the assasination of Ignacio Uría Mendizábal, and the two EA members took their action after the ANV party, which has six members on the Council, refused to condemn the ETA killing. The EA say there can be no cooperation or collaboration, now or in the future, with any political group which accepts, through silence, the violation of the right to life.
The EA, with two members, were involved in a government pact with the ANV, six members, and Aralar, one member.
