During November, the authorities in Fuengirola removed 65 tons of old furniture from the streets as part of their free service.
However, only 20% was as a result of people calling the toll-free number (900 101 889) to arrange for the collection. It is now compulsory for residents to call in advance to arrange for the collection of large objects before actually putting them out on the street, and as from January 1st 2009, the Council will be enforcing the new regulations with ‘vigour’. Offenders could face fines of up to €9,000.
