The Sierra Nevada ski station in Granada was packed over the weekend as people flocked to see the snow.
It was a record weekend as far as the amount of skiable pistes was concerned, with almost 80 kilometres of tracks open for use. During the same weekend last year, only 9 kilometres was skiable.
The 4,500 hotel beds available in the mountains were all occupied and the Borreguiles cable car was working overtime, carrying 2,600 skiers an hour. It was, however, also a record weekend for traffic jams in the area and the Guardia Civil had to close the approach roads on both Saturday and Sunday due to the volume of traffic.
