Work has started on the construction of two new roundabouts at the eastern end of Maro, designed to help improve the traffic flow and increase pedestrian safety in the area.
The project, part of a 1.5 million euro investment by the Ministry of Development, is being carried out by Sardalla Española S. A.. The budget for this project has been set at €299,321.35 and is expected to be completed by the summer.
The management of the old N-340 coastal road between Torrox and Maro was ceded to the Nerja Council by the Ministry of Development, through the Dirección General de Carreteras, and part of the agreement was for a number of improvements to be carried out. These also include a new roundabout and a paved area at Punta Lara (started), improvements to the Rapto de Europa junction, a parking area at the Eagle Aquaduct, modifications to the Puente Nuevo (the bridge by the Supersol supermarket at the western end of town) and improved street lighting.
Those projects which have not yet been started are all expected to begin before the end of December, with the intention of being completed by next summer.
