The new multi-purpose building by the Conejito roundabout in Torrox may well finally open after seven years of construction, delays and wranglings.
The Council has reached an agreement with the company presently carrying out construction work on the building regarding an alleged debt of €500,000 due to changes made to the original project and has incorporated this amount in its budget for 2009 to pay off the debt.
This means that with a bit of luck and a fair wind, the four-storey building could actually open in March 2009.
It is anticipated that the construction company, Perfersán, will hand over the building in the coming weeks and once the formalities are complete, the premises can be cleaned and made ready for occupation.
The new building will house several municipal units, including the Tourism Department, a library and the studios of the future Digital Terrestrial Television centre, a project being carried out in conjunction with Nerja.
