The latest investigation into child pornography, ‘operación caramelo’, has resulted in the arrest of 13 people and the charging of a further twelve.
The police operation began several months ago after a complaint by a web surfer in Córdoba that a file-sharing system was hosting content which camouflaged videos and photos of paedophile material.
The police then began the task of tracing and tracking the authors and distributors of these images and this led to the current arrests.
Raids were carried out on 25 houses in 16 provinces throughout Spain. The arrests were made in: Alicante (1), Barcelona (2), Madrid (2), Segovia (1), Tarragona (1), Valencia (3), Vizcaya (1) and Zaragoza (2).
In addition, another 12 people have been implicated in the case and have been charged, these being in Alicante (1), Asturias (1), Cádiz (1), Granada (2), Lugo (1), Madrid (1), Málaga (1), Murcia (1), Sevilla (1), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (1) and Vizcaya (1).
During the raids, police seized numerous computers, hard drives, laptops, videos, dvd’s and over 30,000 pornographic images.
