The CGPJ, the governing body for the judiciary, has upheld the €1,500 fine imposed on judge Rafael Tirado for the delay in executing the sentence against Santiago del Valle, the murderer of young Mari Luz Cortés.
The delay in ordering the execution of of a sentence imposed on Santiago del Valle for the abuse of one of his own daughters led to him still being at large and resulted in the death of five year old Mari Luz Cortés in Huelva.
The CGPJ rejected appeals by both judge Tirado, who thought the sentence was too harsh, and by the Public Prosecutor, who was seeking a three year suspension from office for the judge.
Juan José Cortés, the father of the murdered girl, described the ruling by the CGPJ as a ‘national shame’.
