A 74 year old man from Neda, A. Coruña, has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife.
At 05:30 yesterday morning, the police received notification of an aggravated assault in a house in Avenida de Algeciras. Upon arrival, the officers found the daughter in the doorway suffering serious injuries as a result of a severe blow to the head.
While some officers assisted the daughter, others searched the house and found the alleged assailant and his wife in bed. The woman had serious injuries to the head, caused by a hammer, and wounds to the neck, caused by a knife.
The husband, who had cuts to the neck, still had the weapons in his hands when subdued by the police officers.
The Emergency Services rushed to the scene but, although the woman was actually alive when they arrived, she died a few minutes later. All attempts to revive her failed. The daughter was taken to hospital for treatment.
The husband was also taken to the same hospital as his daughter.
As far as anyone knows, there was no history of violence within the family.
