Jun, in Granada province, is a small municipality of just 2,000 inhabitants, but they are proving that size isn’t everything.
Jun was the first municipality in Spain to provide free internet access to all its residents back in 2000, and in 2001 became the first municipality to transmit an interactive council meeting via the internet, a project carried out in conjunction with British Telecom.
This small municipality was also amongst the first to offer an electronic prescription service and this year, Mayor José Antonio Rodríguez sent out his Christmas message online.
So what next? Well, Jun now has its own YouTube channel where residents looking for employment can post video CV’s, giving potential employers the chance to see applicants in a sort of virtual interview.
Not only that, but local businesses can also post videos as applications for local work contracts.
This latest project forms just part of a €1.77 million revitalisation plan for the local economy. There are currently twenty-three investment projects included in this revitalisation plan, the majority of which were proposed by local residents via the Mayor’s own blog.
Here is the Christmas message from the Mayor of Jun.
