Apparently, more than two years after work began on beautifying the final section of the Rio Chillar, the project is going to be finished in February and officially inaugurated at some time before the end of March.
The €4.4 million project has been beset with problems. Floods, necessitating a virtual restart, countless changes to the draft plan and endless delays, but the end now seems to be in sight.
It should end up with pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes and a bridge, all tree-lined and with landscaped gardens. That was the original idea, anyway.
The plan has obviously been drastically cut back in scope as this is still the situation further along the riverbed.
