Around 4,000 people in Vélez-Málaga were left without power yesterday after a fire at an electricity transformer in calle Verdiales.
At around 13:30, residents in the area knew something was about to happen when they heard explosions and saw a plume of smoke. And it did, the power was disrupted to the entire zone around avenida Vivar Téllez.
The Council is seeking a meeting with Sevillana-Endesa as they believe the electricty company are not carrying out the necessary renewals of transformers which, each day, have to bear a greater burden.
In addition, many of the transformers are located in the basements of buildings and, therefore, pose a real fire hazard should something happen.
