The Asociación de Madres y Padres de Alumnos (Ampa) – The Parents Association – at Maria Zambrano school in Mijas are urging parents to keep their children away from school until the problem of heating in the buildings is resolved.
The classrooms are described as being like refrigerators and with the current cold spell, the children are suffering.
However, the problem is not that the school doesn’t have heating, it does. The problem seems to be that, although the school has been operating for two years, it is still connected to the builders’ electricity supply, which means that every time the heating is switched on, the system blows.
Some of the delay in rectifying the situation has been put down to the rains of 2008! The latest prediction is that the problem will be resolved ‘next week’.
