Guardia Civil officers in Granada have found the body of the athlete who went missing on December 17th 2008.
Thirty year old Fidel Ramírez had been preparing for a marathon and had set off via Pico del Caballo in the Sierra Nevada, Ogíjares, La Zubia and Lanjarón for a final destination of Salobreña.
Ramírez had set off without any warm clothes, food or mobile phone, just taking a backpack with some water in it.
The lifeless body was found in the Rio Dílar at a place known as Collado Chaquetas. Initial identification was made through the clothing he was wearing.
A search for the athlete had been ongoing since his disappearance over a month ago.
