An autopsy carried out on 33 year old Fidel Ramírez, the missing athlete whose body was found in the Rio Dílar on Sunday, has shown that he died from hyperthermia.
Ramírez, who was preparing for a marathon, set out from Ogíjares in December en route to the coastal town of Salobreña via the Sierra Nevada mountains. He then disappeared and various searches of the area were carried out.
On Sunday, his lifeless body was discovered in the Rio Dílar. Ramiréz had set out on his journey in shorts and t-shirt, taking no food or warm clothes with him and carrying only a rucksack containing water.
