Under the Plan Estatal de Inversión Local, a measure to combat the economic crisis, the government is providing some €1,426 million to the municipalities of Andalucía for local infrastructure projects.
It started on December 1oth 2008 and the deadline, which will not be extended, is January 24th 2009. Municipalities are required to submit their proposals for approval and all projects have to be executed by the first quarter of 2010.
With only a few days to go before the deadline, only 39% of the 770 municipalities have submitted projects for approval.
The projects so far approved, 2,399 of them, have a value of €750 million and will generate 26,077 much needed jobs.
There is obviously, or hopefully, going to be a last-minute rush to submit projects. Nationally, the situation is not much better than that of Andalucía, with only around 50% of municipalities having submitted their projects.
