Torrox Council has also been busy submitting projects for approval under the Plan Estatal de Inversiones – nicknamed the ‘Zapatero Plan’ – and also the regional equivalent, the Plan Proteja.
Torrox is set to receive €2.7 million under the central government plan and €526,493 under the regional plan, the money to be used to finance infrastructure projects in the municipality.
Plans submitted under the ‘Zapatero Plan’ include:
- Improvements to Plaza de la Constitución
- Improvements to calles Hospital, San José, Bellavista, Andasalia, Expósito, Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Caminillo and Fe
- The building of a ‘punto limpio’ (rubbish depository and recycling centre) next to the sewage plant
Under the Plan Proteja, projects submitted include:
- New locker rooms at the El Morche school which will also be available to users of the football field
The Council decided against improvements to the promenade at Ferrara Playa as there are already works pending in the area which are to be carried out by the Ministry of Environment.
These various projects are expected to generate about 100 jobs in the area.
