The mayor of Alfarnatejo, Antonio Benítez, has appeared in court in Malaga to answer charges of misappropriation of public funds. Also accused of similar offences is his former deputy, Rafael Gallardo.
The two men are accused of misappropriating a total of €32,000 by diverting funds, intended to pay five Council invoices, into their own bank accounts or the accounts of relatives.
The mayor denies the charges.
