The National Police is invesigating the death, in mysterious circumstances, of San Pedro de Alcantara businessman Fernando Moreno Espada.
The body of Fernando Moreno Espada was found near Istan, handcuffed and gagged, one day after he was kidnapped.
The family are well known in the town and have interests in several real estate and construction companies. When 76 year old Fernando Moreno Espada failed to return home after his daily visit to a cement factory and an avocado plantation, his family reported him missing.
Then came a series of phone calls stating that Fernando Moreno Espada had been kidnapped, with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of €1 million. Finally, a call was received informing the family that Fernando Moreno Espada was dead and giving the location of his body.
The coordinates given by the kidnappers were not exactly correct and it took some time before the body was located. It was found in a hut in the Arroyo Montero area of Marbella.
An autopsy is being carried out to ascertain the exact cause of death. One of the kidnappers is reported as having a South American accent.
