Kidnappers remanded in custody

Two men have been remanded in custody in connection with the kidnap and murder of San Pedro businessman Fernando Moreno.

Moreno, aged 76 years, was kidnapped on Wednesday January 21st and his body, bound and gagged, was found the following day on the road between Marbella and Istán.

The kidnappers had initially demanded a €2 million ransom, but later reduced this to €600,000. The final call from the kidnappers informed the the family that Fernando Moreno was dead and indicated where his body could be found.

It took the police some time to locate the body as they had been given the wrong coordinates. Once located, an investigation began and four people were arrested, one Spaniard and three Colombian nationals.

The Spaniard, initials A.S.A., and one of the Colombians, initials J.L.C., were yesterday ordered to be detained in custody and without possibility of bail. The Judge investigating the case, María Jesús del Pilar Márquez, also ordered the two men to be kept incommunicado during their stay in Alhaurín de la Torre prison.

The other two detainees are due in court later today.

The Spaniard who is now in jail was a former employee of Fernando Moreno and even went to his funeral.
