The Council has postponed a review of the Land Registry, is trying to improve payments to suppliers and is implementing an austerity plan, all measures designed to ease the financial burden on the local community.
The Social Welfare budget for 2009 has been increased by 15% and three areas in particular are to receive special attention.
Triple the current amount of money will be made available for the soup kitchens in the city which, due to the unemployment situation, are becoming saturated.
