Torrox Council has finally reached an agreement with the company Pefersán S. A. regarding the new multi-purpose centre in Torrox Costa.
The Council has agreed to pay outstanding monies to the company, a total of €501,000, before the end of the year and this means the inauguration of the new centre could take place before the end of April.
The multi-purpose centre, which includes a library, a new office for the mayor, a tourist office and a studio facility for a new digital terrestrial tv station being set up by Torrox and Nerja, has been beset with problems.
Way behind schedule due to the numerous delays, it has often been referred to as a ‘white elephant’, probably with some justification.
The building still has to be suitably equipped and the Council is currently trying to get some sort of subsidy to complete the centre.
