After seven years of having to put up with the noise from the Mediterráneo A-7, residents at the northern end of Maro are finally seeing some action to alleviate the problem.
The erection of sonic barriers was part of the original plan when construction of the A-7 highway began, but it never happened.
Last July, following further protests by the local residents, Málaga Council announced the ‘immediate’ commencement of works. However, they were obviously using a different dictionary definition as the ‘immediate’ commencement didn’t take place until the last days of January.
So, a one metre deep trench has now been dug ready to house the barriers. The project is costing €210,000 and covers a stretch of road 152 metres long.
Hopefully, before too long, the residents of this area will be able to open their windows without fear of being deafened. It’s just taken rather a long time.
