Police in calle Marta. Málaga, spotted a car trying to park and approached the vehicle to ask the driver to kindly park somewhere else. The occupants became very nervous and attempted, unsuccessfully, to speed away which raised suspicions and prompted the officers to search the car.
Inside they found several bundles containing money, most of it counterfeit. There was €6,000 in counterfeit €50 notes. However, many had been produced in the wrong colour!
The counterfeiters, for reasons best known to themselves, had produced €50 notes in the colour of the €500. Clever stuff.
Police also found packs of notes ready to be changed. The packs had a few counterfeit notes top and bottom, but the middle section was made up of cut-up magazine paper.
The occupants of the vehicle, three men of sub-Saharan origin, were duly detained.
