The bill for the damage caused by the freak tornado in Málaga on Sunday has been estimated at around €8 million.
Most of the money will be destined for the repair of industrial warehouses and buildings, including the bus station where the roof was blown off and 40 buses were damaged.
The Corsorcio de Compensación de Seguros (Insurance Compensation Consortium), a Government body, has been busy assessing the damage.
Around 750 individuals are likely to qualify for compensation for damage to their homes or their vehicles.
There are still some people, especially in the San Andrés area, whose homes remain uninhabitable.
The Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, is hoping to meet with Prime Minister Zapatero to discuss help for families who did not have any sort of insurance cover. The Junta de Andalucía has already indicated a willingness to help in such cases, although no specifics have yet been decided.
