A 16 year old youth in Ipswich, Queensland, who had been behaving aggressively, died after complying with a police order to lie down on the floor.
The youth, faced by an officer who had drawn a Taser, chose to submit and lie down on the road rather than get zapped. Unfortunately, he was then run over by a passing car. Police had tried to warn the approaching driver but with no luck.
The incident is being treated as a death in custody and the Ethical Standards Command is investigating. The driver of the passing vehicle, a woman, was treated for shock at the scene. No charges are to be pressed against her relating to the accident.
