In 2006, Rincón de la Victoria Council announced the intention to build a swimming pool in the La Marina area of Torre de Benagalbón.
The facility, 25 metres by 12 metres, is intended for both municipal and competition use. The project is budgeted at €4.5 million, financed jointly by the Council and the Junta de Andalucía, and the completion period is three years.
So when will it come into operation? Not until 2012, at the earliest.
It is currently hoped that work can begin in September, although the contract has yet to be awarded.
The problem appears to have been that the original draft project now has to be reassessed, revised, rewritten and reapproved to take into account various changes made to the building code during the intervening years.
It is now compulsory, for example, to include solar energy installations in any new construction.
All this means that it will be at least 2012 before the swimming pool opens its doors to the public.
