A good first fifteen minutes by England against European Champions Spain, and they could have scored, but it all went a bit downhill from there as Spain recovered and began to dominate.
David Villa scored the first goal after 35 minutes, jinking his way past several players before slotting the ball home, and then Fernando Llorente, playing in only his second international, headed a second.
And so it remained, although Spain continued to dominate in just about every department. It was England’s first defeat in nine games, but it has given manager Fabio Capello a few things to mull over.
England had no cutting edge up front, with Heskey being more of a nuisance to the Spanish defenders than a threat, and the defending was a bit sloppy at times. However, it was only 2-0, which is not disastrous. An enjoyable game, even if somewhat frustrating at times.
