The Councillor for Infrastructure, José Alberto Tomé, has announced the plans for the long awaited reformation of Plaza Cavana in the centre of town.
The project, to be jointly financed by the Provincial Council and Nerja Municipal Council, will have a budget of €354,000 and an execution period of six months. It is highly likely that the first phase of the works will begin before, and continue over, the summer.
Despite the best will in the world, it is well known that very little, if anything, gets done on such projects during the heat of summer, regardless of initial enthusiasm to continue working as normal.
The project involves all the normal infrastructure work: water pipes, sewage pipes, stormwater drainage etc, as well as making the area one single level.
In addition, account is being taken of the businesses who use the square as terraces and the plan is for each one to have its own clearly marked and unique site. It is hoped that the end result will be a modern square but with a traditional appearance and atmosphere.
