Real Madrid made up a bit of ground on leaders Barcelona by beating Sporting Gijón 4-0 on Sunday.
Raúl opened the scoring, and in doing so he surpassed the goal scoring record of the legendary Alfredo de Stefano at the club. It was Raul´s 308th goal for Real Madrid.
Huntelaar and Marcelo added to the score on either side of the break and then Raúl finished things off with his second goal of the match. Real Madrid are now ten points behind their arch rivals.
Sevilla moved back up to third in the table with a late victory against struggling Espanyol, Kanouté getting both goals in the 0-2 win.
Villarreal stay in fifth spot after a 1-1 draw with Racing Santander. Zigic put Racing ahead midway through the first half but this was cancelled out by a strike from Cazorla just before the break.
In Division Two, Xerez continue on their merry way, this time beating Salamanca 2-1. Momo opened the scoring after ten minutes but at the start of the second half, Calle put the ball into his own net to even things out again. However, Calle made up for his error by scoring the winner just a few minutes later.
Tenerife are in second place, a 3-2 victory against Elche keeping them three points behind the leaders.
Luna put the Canary Islanders ahead, but then goals from Rubén Pérez and David Fuster suddenly turned the match around. Nino restored the equilibrium and then Ricardo scored the winner from a free kick with fifteen minutes of the match remaining.
In the Primera Andaluza Grupo 3, C.D. Nerja slipped to fifth after a 0-3 defeat at the hands of second placed El Palo.
Leaders Mancha Real overcame Dos Hermanas S Andrés 1-2 to maintain a five point lead at the top of the table.
Baeza C.F. take over fourth place after a 1-0 win against visiting Torremolinos.
Álcala C.F. didn’t win but did manage to keep the scoreline respectable, going down 0-1 to Barrios NS Remedios.
