A police investigation which started in June 2008 has resulted in the arrest of sixteen people involved in the theft and subsequent resale of vehicles.
The detainees, 6 Bulgarians, 9 Moroccans and 1 Spaniard, were involved in the theft of vehicles in various parts of the country and would then resell them in North Africa after they had been suitably ‘doctored’.
The first arrests took place in November in Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca, but this failed to stop the gang carrying on in other parts of Spain. Now, with arrests in Estepona, where the cars were processed, and in Valencia, Villajoyosa and Teulada-Moraira, the network has been dismantled.
In the raids, police seized several vehicles, cash, drugs as well as numerous false number plates and fake documents.
