Nerja already has the AEN (Asociación de Empresarios Nerja), a grouping of local business employers, which has gained much influence over the years.
Now, a new body is being set up to help the property industry during the current economic situation. The AIN (Agrupación de Inmobiliarias de Nerja) relates to the real estate sector, particularly badly hit by the economic situation with twelve businesses going under in the past year.
Property prices in Nerja have fallen by around 20% during the past year and some estate agents have seen up to a 70% decline in their activity. It is no wonder, then, that a dozen have already fallen by the wayside.
Under the new scheme, the AIN will produce a uniform list of properties so that potential buyers are able to see a true guide as to what is actually available on the market.
In addition, a website is being set up and each AIN member will be able to list three of their properties on the new site and there will be links back to the respective agents.
Around a dozen estate agents have already signed up for the scheme and the organisers are hoping that many more will follow during the next few weeks.
