The Inspection Service of the judicial body, the CGPJ, does not believe that judge Baltasar Garzón can be punished for participating in the hunting trip with former Justice Minister Mariano Fernández Bermejo.
The Inspection Service do not believe his conduct was in breach of the Ley Orgánica del Poder Judicial (LOPJ) – Law of Judicial Power – and are making a proposal to the disciplinary committee to close the matter.
The often controversial Judge Garzón was denounced by the Partido Popular, the subject of a corruption investigation at the time, on the grounds of his conduct being an ‘anomaly’ as, during that hunting weekend, three members of the PP were arrested. The PP called into question the judge’s independence and professional conduct in the matter.
