Vélez-Málaga Council is seeking funding for a major project to renovate and improve the promenade in Torre del Mar.
The project includes improvements to or replacement of existing infrastructure, the sea wall, bicycle lanes and repaving of the area, to name but a few, and the estimated cost has been put at €9 million. The Council, however, has so far only managed to raise €2.2 million by means of a grant from the Fondo de Modernización de Infraestructuras Turísticas (FOMIT).
The Council is now planning a trip to Madrid to lobby for funding under the Plan for Sustainable Tourism. At the same time, the Council intends to discuss such matters as a proposed extension to the promenade in Torre del Mar and the construction of a pedestrian mall in Chilches, both being outstanding projects which have not yet been addressed.
