There are currently 10 mayors in Málaga province who are the subject of ongoing legal proceedings.Past Mayors who have suffered the wrath of the courts and ended up in jail include Jesus Gil, Marisol Yagüe, Antonio Barrientos and, the latest to join this merry band, the Mayor of Alcaucín, José Manuel Martín Alba.
Of the ten currently under investigation, six are PSOE, three are PP and one is from the CA (Convergencia Andaluza), roughly in keeping with the balance of power in the province.
The majority of the charges relate to city planning violations and environmental crimes, although one does relate to the harassment of a Councillor and another to the misappropriation of funds. The ten with pending cases against them are:

- Joaquín Villanova – Alhaurín de la Torre
- Francisco Hidalgo – Fuente de Piedra
- Antonio Sánchez – Mijas
- Antonio Benítez – Alfarnatejo
- José Luis Navas – Sayalonga
- José Manuel Aranda – Canillas de Aceituno
- Juan Millán – La Viñuela
