Despite the recent protests by businessmen in Torrox, tons of sand is once again being brought in to replenish stocks on Ferrara Playa in preparation for the Easter vacation.
Both the Council and local businessmen are demanding a permanent solution to the perpetual problem of beach erosion during the winter as they are fed up with the constant ‘patching’ after each spell of bad weather.
The Department of Coasts is currently bringing in 35,000 tons of sand to get the beach in shape for the upcoming Easter holiday period.
The Ministry of Environment has, apparently, responded to a request by Torrox Council for an ‘urgent’ meeting to discuss the situation. This meeting has been scheduled for April 19th and the Council are hoping to hear that a permanent solution has been found and, more importantly, is to be implemented. ‘Hoping’ is the operative word.
