The Council and the Market Traders have agreed upon a number of measures to improve the Almijara site and, with a following wind, the market could reappear just before or during the Easter week.
The agreement has now been translated into a motion to be presented to the Councillor for Markets, José Miguel Jimena, at the next Council session. In the meantime, municipal technicians are studying the proposed changes which include an extension to the area allotted for the stalls and an additional parking area nearby to house 200 vehicles.
The Councillor for Beaches stated that the Council is working at ‘top speed’ to get the market up and running again after seven months of dispute.
The Councillor also stated that the Administrative Court has ‘filed’ the action brought against them by the Market Traders, adding that this was a sign that the Council had always acted correctly in the matter and in accordance with the law.
the market trader says:
Again… if it was not a tragedy for the 200 families, who have been mistreated by the local government, and without an income for ten months, it would be great fun… 31. of january the markettraders “accepted” Almijara (the alternative was to loose the license…) Thank’s god the local government works at “top speed” imagine it did not… But I’ll bet whatever you want, that the market is NOT ready for eastern!!
