Amazing to think how a woman could give birth in an airplane toilet on a three-and-a-half hour flight and not be noticed, either by her prolonged absence or the inability of anyone else being able to get to the loo.
After giving birth, the woman dumped the baby in the toilet waste bin and disembarked, and it wasn’t until an hour later that the poor waif was discovered.
The woman, a Samoan, was on her way to Auckland, New Zealand. After disembarking from the plane, she later went back as she had misplaced her passport. Officials noticed she had blood on her and she was detained. Mother and baby are now in hospital while the police investigate the incident and the possibility of criminal proceedings being initiated for the crime of abandonment.
Also being investigated is how a woman in such an advanced state of labour was able to board the plane unnoticed in the first place as the airline company, Pacific Blue, require a medical certificate for anyone over 36 weeks into their pregnancy.
Good job she wasn’t flying Ryanair, otherwise not only might she be facing charges for abandonment but also charges for excessive use of the toilet. Maybe even for an extra passenger.
