A British tourist died after falling from the balcony of a hotel in Guardamar del Segura, south of Alicante on the Costa Blanca.
The man, aged 31 years, was apparently trying to evade Guardia Civil officers who had been called to the hotel to investigate complaints about noise.
The decased and a friend had returned to the Eden Mar Hotel after a night on the town and allegedly refused requests to keep the noise level down, forcing the staff to call the police. When the two men refused to open the hotel room door, the Guardia Civil were given a pass key.
It was at this point that one of the men tried to escape via the balcony, losing his footing and falling about 3 or 4 metres to the ground. He suffered serious head injuries and subsequently died.
