The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Chaves, has today proposed the setting up of a working group involving the Junta, the Central Government and owners of beach bars (chiringuitos) to try and resolve the issues surrounding the implementation of the Coastal Law.
Chaves is one of many who do not wish to see the disappearance of the chiringuitos, considered part of the uniqueness of Andalucía. The Minister for Tourism Trade and Sport, Luciano Alonso, also favours the retention of the chiringuitos but, as he pointed out, it is the Government, through the Department of Coasts, with the power to grant titles for such facilities.
Manuel Chaves hopes that an amicable agreement can be reached, with flexibility being a key factor in any negotiations.
