Brotherhoods throughout Andalucía have been debating whether or not to wear white ties as a protest against plans to change the abortion laws in Spain.
So far, Córdoba has decided ‘yes’ and Granada, Málaga, Sevilla, Almería, Huelva and Jerez have decided ‘no’. This does not mean that these brotherhoods support the proposed changes, quite the opposite, it is just they have decided to make their protest in different ways.
On a wider front, the secretary of the PSOE, Leire Pajín, has urged the Catholic Church not to confuse politics with religion, stating that decisions on laws are made by parliament for the benefit of the people. The PP, on the other hand, are saying that the brotherhoods have every right to express their opinions during Easter Week because they represent part of society.
