The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo Navas, and the Councillor for Beaches, Jonathan Méndez Hermans met Friday morning with the Head of the Department of Coasts, Francisco Hermoso, and various technicians to discuss ongoing and proposed projects affecting the coastline.
Francisco Hermosa checked on progress at El Chucho beach with a view to accelerating actions so that the new promenade is ready for use in the summer.
Also on the agenda was the stabilisation of Torrecilla beach to avoid the perpetual erosion of the area and the constant need to replenish the sand.
The Mayor informed Francisco Hermosa on progress obtaining title to the plots of land at El Playazo in readiness for the construction of a new promenade. The Council is trying to obtain all the plots within 100 metres of the sea and hopes to be able to report shortly that work can go ahead on drafting the plans for the new promenade.
The Mayor added that, should any of the owners refuse to negotiate, the Ministry of Environment and the Department of Coasts would no doubt take the necessary legal steps to obtain title to the land.
