A 400 kilo bull escaped from a farm in Colmenar and went for a wander along the Carretera del Arco, the A-356, prompting fears for the safety of motorists who, at that point, could be traveling at 100 kph.
Guardia Civil patrols monitored the progress of the bull for three hours, trying to prevent it wandering onto the roads in the area. At the same time, attempts were made to contact the owner of the animal, a task made difficult by the fact that no-one in the town seemed to be aware that anyone was keeping bulls on their property.
However, they eventually located the owner and after it was deemed impossible to capture the bull and get it back to the farm, the decision was taken to shoot it. The owner authorised this action and sent one of his neighbours to carry out the deed. The body of the bull was then taken to the local butcher.
