Today sees the inauguration of the new, and first, Metro line in the city of Sevilla. The line is 18 kilometres in length and connects four municipalities in the region, Mairena del Aljarafe, San Juan de Aznalfarache, Sevilla and Dos Hermanas.
The new line was given a thorough testing by some 2,000 volunterrs at a sort of ‘dress rehearsal’ last Saturday and everything was apparently in order.
The authorities are expecting the Metro to carry in the region of 14.5 million passengers each year. This first stage is just the beginning, as three more lines are planned as part of the Sevilla Metro system.
