The Provincial Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has introduced a complete ban on fishing for all species of bivalves and gastropods along the entire Málaga coastline from Nerja to Sabinillas.
This ban covers everything from mussels to sea urchins, clams to sea anemones, and has been introduced as a result of the detection of high levels of ASP toxins, more commonly referred to as ‘Marea roja’.
Around 150 boats and 200 people are affected by the ban. If the ban goes on for more than 21 days, the fishermen will be eligible for financial assistance.
The ASP phenomenon can neither be predicted nor can its duration be specified, it is a question of constant inspection.
