In the Champions League, Villarreal and Arsenal are all square after the first leg of their quarter final-match, although Arsenal have the distinct advantage of an away goal.
Villarreal dominated the first half and took the lead when Marcos Senna drilled one home from thirty yards.
Arsenal improved, particularly after the break, and secured an equaliser, and a vital away goal, when Adebayor chested down a Cesc Fabregas pass and then performed an acrobatic overhead kick, volleying the ball past the Villarreal keeper.
In the other match played last night, reigning champions Manchester United drew 2-2 with Porto, the Portuguese side having the clear advantage of two away goals.
Porto went ahead after just four minutes with a goal from Cristian Rodriguez but United replied swiftly, Rooney intercepting a back pass and duly slotting the ball into the net.
Carlos Tevez, on as a substitute, gave Man United the lead in the 85th minute but, once again, a response was fairly swift and with just one minute to go, Mariano Gonzalez scrambled home an equaliser which now leaves United with quite a task in the second leg.
